A home in Nampa suffered major damage after an explosion rocked the house.
NAMPA -- A "large scale" explosion flattened one home, affected two nearby homes, and sent debris flying for up to three blocks away.
Incredible damage
It happened Friday morning at 407 Summer Court in Nampa. Firefighters say several callers told dispatchers they heard an explosion come from the home.
When they arrived on scene, one person was in the home. He has been identified as Larry King, who lived and worked out of the home.
"We did a search and found one gentleman who was in the structure," Nampa Fire Chief Doug Strosnider said.
King was taken to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise where a hospital spokesperson tells us he is being evaluated.
Strosnider says the home suffered heavy damage from the explosion and fire. There is a lot of damage in the attic and the insulation was scattered everywhere.
The explosion was felt up to three blocks away according to neighbors. One person told KTVB that their animals were scared and he was nearly knocked out of his chair.
"It was massive. It was kinda like a plane going through a house. Like a sonic boom," neighbor Mike Ollinger said. "It's devastating. I couldn't even imagine if you were walking by when that thing blew. I still kinda have the jitters from it."
The family whose home exploded has a long road ahead.
"Their possessions pretty much gone - and all over this neighborhood," Strosnider said. "When I arrived it looked like snow was on that roof from the insulation."
The cause of the explosion isn't know. The Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is on the way, and Nampa Fire Department crews are also investigating.
The American Red Cross has also been called into help affected families.
